There’s a pick-up artist project on Kickstarter — (over)funded almost exclusively thanks to Reddit, natch —- that encourages men to “force” women to rebuff advances because “personal space is for pussies.” Will Kickstarter shut it down before the creator receives over $15,000 this afternoon?

Ken Hoinsky, aka “TofuTofu” on Reddit, launched a Kickstarter so he could “properly publish” a bunch of advice he had posted online over the past three years in a book called Above The Game: A Guide to Getting Awesome with Women. He initially only sought $2,000, but supporters have donated nearly $16,000 to read his thoughts on slimy seduction. Most of those supporters are Redditors, according to Hoinsky, who started spamming me with email last month, begging me to write about his exploits.

“Wanna let your readers know [about the Kickstarter]? I’m sure they’ll have a field day with this,” he wrote in May, as if we were collaborating on a project. I didn’t respond, but he updated me nonetheless: “The funding has reached 300% of goal, almost exclusively from reddit. I think your readers will find the story of a book on meeting women, stemming from an online community like reddit, very compelling.” When I finally told him I wasn’t interested, he wrote: “Boo… I showed it to my brother’s Jezebel-addicted ex-girlfriend and she went on a 3 hour diatribe about it. Your readers will eat it up! Come on, a bunch of nerdy guys on reddit live-blogging their exploits with women? You can’t make this shit up :)”

That sealed the deal: I love mocking/calling out pick-up artists, but I was definitely not going to write about this pathetic fameball. Until I read that Hoinsky endorses straight-up sexual harassment and assault. Here’s some of his advice (via Casey Malone):

Get CLOSE to her, damn it!: To quote Rob Judge, “Personal space is for pussies.” I already told you that the most successful seducers are those who can’t keep their hands off of women. Well you’re not gonna be able to do that if you aren’t in close! ”

“All the greatest seducers in history could not keep their hands off of women. They aggressively escalated physically with every woman they were flirting with. They began touching them immediately, kept great body language and eye contact, and were shameless in their physicality. Even when a girl rejects your advances, she KNOWS that you desire her. That’s hot. It arouses her physically and psychologically.”

“Decide that you’re going to sit in a position where you can rub her leg and back. Physically pick her up and sit her on your lap. Don’t ask for permission. Be dominant. Force her to rebuff your advances.”

“Sex: Pull out your cock and put her hand on it. Remember, she is letting you do this because you have established yourself as a LEADER. Don’t ask for permission, GRAB HER HAND, and put it right on your dick.”

I am opening commissions! Due to financial problems and car problems, I am rather short on funds. So, I could really use the extra money to go towards paying for my car.

For now I shall only be doing portraits of a kind due to time constraints.

Here’s how they’ll be:

Full Body Sketch: $6.50

Chibi Sketch: $3.50

Full Body Quickdraw: $2.00

Color: Add $1.00 to original price.

Background (black and white or color): Will depend on complexity.

I do mostly traditional art, but I can do digital art if you prefer.

I have a pay-first policy, but that only applies when I’ve begun to work on your commission. I will take on 10 at a time since I do have finals and work to worry about.

I find the Snape/Lily narrative to be really horrific, honestly. The fact that we are asked to feel oh so bad for poor little Snape makes me a little bit queasy.

Because, yes, I do sympathize with Snape for having a rough childhood.

But he was a horrible friend to Lily. He ignored her feelings. He screamed racial slurs at her. He favored the idealized version of her he had built up in his mind over the REAL her (I think it is significant that James’ patronus is a STAG, showing compatibility with Lily; while Snape is a DOE, showing a mimicry of Lily). That idealization and inability to reconcile how his own actions contributed to the failure of their friendship literally KILLED Lily.

I understand that we can show some sympathy for him. Watching someone self destruct their own relationships because of abuse and peer pressure and the tribulations of childhood? That’s tragic.

But then he grows up to emotionally abuse Lily’s son for having a physical resemblance to her husband.

And we’re supposed to feel sorry for him? We’re supposed to think it’s lovely and sweet that Harry names his child after the teacher who emotionally abused him for years? Who emotionally abused OTHER children for years as well?

The fans who sit around and cry about how Lily SHOULD have picked Snape, how Snape DESERVED her? How James was a horrible douche and Lily was a bitch for choosing him? Ugh. No. nno no no no on oonononononononoooooo.

also snape actually ruined a mans career fully knowing he probably couldn’t get another one.

Oh the shit that went down with Remus makes me really want to break his teeth.

Remus had been HOMELESS. Remus had spent much of his adult life implied to be on the streets, unable to find work, and completely unable to make new friendships or relationships after Lily and James died, Peter vanished, and Sirius went to jail (ALL of which is DIRECTLY Snape’s god damn fault.)

And then just as Remus picks himself back up again? Becomes a positive force and father figure to Harry? Snape deliberately and purposely gets him FIRED so that he will be unemployed and potentially homeless AGAIN.

How the fuck am I supposed to show any sympathy for an adult who completely lacks the ability to show sympathy, or even human decency, to others?
